To tap thr vast Bamboo resources of the State, the Government of Manipur is mulling over setting up a Bamboo Technology Park at Jiribam sub-division of Imphal East District.
Disclosing this to mediapersons yesterday, Commerce and Industries Minister N Mangi Singh said the step has been taken up to make use of the large quantity of Bamboo which have been fell down in the wake of the Bamboo flowering phenomenon.
An expert team under the supervision of Director of Industries Dhiraj Yumnam has been deputed to Jiribam to study the feasibility of the project so that a detailed project report (DPR) could be prepared and submitted to the Central Government for financial support, the Minister informed.
Replying to a question on the Sericulture project being taken up in the State, the Industries Minister said that the Japan Sericulture Project being taken up in Manipur with funding from Japan Bank of International Corporation (JBIC) is progressing smoothly.
All the necessary works of the first phase of the project are being taken up on a war-footing, the Minister said, adding that that constriction of 4000 Individual Adult Rearing Houses have taken up keeping with the target of completing them within the current year.
Due arrears of the Field Operating Units (FOU) have been disbursed and the required pre-fabrication materials arrived at Imphal from Modern Prefix Company at Gurgaon, the Minister further informed.
With completion of the earth work, the Minister said the construction work of the factory complex of the project at Sangaipat in Imphal East District is currently underway, and the Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited would start other necessary construction work very soon.
The ambitious Japan Sericulture Project in Manipur had been stalled for some time following some misunderstanding between the Union Ministry of Textiles and the Silk Board of India.
The project resumed after clearing the misunderstanding.
