Volunteers of All Manipur AntiDrug Association (AMADA) have pulled up two persons allegedly involving in stealing the tape recorder of the Maruti Van (MN01K/5591) and the battery of the Jeep (MN01A/0384) used by AMADA head office.
The two accused persons identified as Irom Makhon alias Nandalal (29) s/o Irom Manihar of Keishampat Laisom Leirak and Phurailatpam Naobi (28) s/o Phurailatpam Ongbi Kunjarashi were paraded during a press conference at the office of the AMADA this afternoon.
Speaking to mediapersons in this connection with the incident, secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports of AMADA Head office Th Roshan Luwang informed that after the incident of stealing which occurred on the night of May 2 and 8 respectively, volunteers of AMADA conducted a probe and managed to rounded up Naobi and Makhon from Laisom Leirak area.
Both of them were drunk and were abusing AMADA at the time of their arrest.
During the course of interrogation, they also confessed that the tap recorder and the battery have been stolen by them and sold the same at Rs 1200 for purchasing SP tablets.
Both of them would be handed over to their respective family members after giving proper advice against such indulgences.
However, they would be made to repay for the goods stolen in accordance to the bye-laws of AMADA, Roshan informed.
On the other hand, secretary general of AMADA Bishnupur District Council RK Tombisana informed at around 800 litres of illicit liquor and material used in brewing liquor have been seized from eight persons during a special drive connection at Moirang, Thinungei, Naransena, Toubul and Ningthoukhong area from May 8 to 18.He identified the eight persons from whom the seizure have been made as Damu Kamei (38) s/o Nungthoima Kamei of Toubul Mayai Leikai, Sagolsem Ashalata Devi (30) d/o S Inao of Toubul Mani Bazar, Oinam Thoiba (23) s/o Oinam Ibohal of Ningthoukhong Kha Leikai, Wakhongthem Bisohini Devi (38) d/oLokhon of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, Ibemnungshi Devi (30) w/o Moirangthem Lokhon of Ningthoukhong Okram Leikai, Rita Devi (31) w/o Hemam Bimol of Bishnupur Bazar Ward no.9, Thokchom Ibempishak Singh (45) of Bishnupur Makha Leikai Ward No.7 and Phairembam Shanti Devi (40) of Moirang Thana Leikai.
All the seized illicit liquor and brewing materials were reportedly destroyed after setting them on fire near Ningthoukhong Bazar this morning.
