Troops of Assam Rifles gunned down a suspected cadre of the People's United Liberation Front (PULF) at Lilong area this afternoon.
In a statement, the PRO of Assam Rifles said that troops of 32 Assam Rifles launched an operation in the general area of Samukhong today.
During the search of a house the troops came under fire.
The troops also returned fire and in the ensuing gun fight one PULF cadre was killed.
The deceased has been identified as Noor Rahman alias Amugunda.
One 9 mm pistol with one magazine and four live rounds and DBBL gun with 3 cartridges have been recovered.
acting on a tip-off about presence of underground activists, a team of 32 AR rushed to Samroukhong village of Lilong at around 2 pm, said Col LM Pant, spokesman of the para-military force.
As the security team neared the intended site they were fired upon to which the troops retaliated consequently killing the individual, the spokesman maintained and identified the slain person as Noor Rahman alias Amu Goonda.
Meanwhile, personnel of 21 Assam Rifles apprehended one PREPAK cadre from Chairel area at around 1.30 pm today.
Two lethode shells were recovered from the arrested person, added the spokesman.
