With the main objective of bridging the gap between the hill and the valley area of the State in terms of development in education, road communication and health care as well as to promote peace and unity, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has inspected 10 villages located within Kasom Khullen Sub-Division of Ukhrul district.
Besides inspecting facilities lacking and problems being faced by the people of Kasom, Khunou, Mawai, Tarong, Ramson Khunthak, Nambasi Khullen, Nambasi Khunou, Kasum, Kasum Buntung, Monthouram and Khonglon of Kasom Khullen sub-divisions, representatives of AMSU also distributed blankets to the villager elders and stationary items like exercise book, pen, pencils to the students.
The inspection of the villages by a team of 80 members of AMSU led by it president Birendra Chingakham was held from December 11 to 15.Talking to mediapersons in this connection at AMSU head office here today, Birendra informed that the condition of the educational institutions in those villages was really pathetic with some of the buildings having all crumbled down.
As most of the teachers are from valley areas, they were also found absent, he said, while warning that AMSU would take up action against such teachers if they do not join the schools and perform their duties efficiently at the earliest possible.
Health care is another area that the people living in these remote villages which are also still very backward in term of communication and transport, Birendra said.
He informed that the PHSC at Mawai has not yet been functioned since 1983 and the PHC at Kasom Khullen has no staff at all.
There is the fear of outbreak of chicken pox in Khonglon which is located along the border with Myanmar and malaria outbreak at Mawai, Birendra added.
H also drew the attention of the Govt Departments concerned to the problems being faced by the people of these villages so that necessary remedial measures could be taken up.
