Imphal, January 13: Aspiring candidates of National political parties who wish to contest in the upcoming three-phased election to the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly specially from Tamenglong, Senapati, Ukhrul and Chandel districts have reportedly approached the Election Commission to allow them to file their nomination papers at valley instead of filing the same at their respective designated hill district headquarters.

Disclosing to The Sangai Express, an official source said the intending candidates of the National parties from the hill districts are in a fix following the ultimatum served by UNC and other Naga social organisations to all the Naga MLAs and their workers to resign from their respective national parties within 48 hours.

The intending candidates of the National parties urged the Chief Election Commissioner who had come to Imphal recently to allow them to file their nominations at the valley, the source said.

Acting on the complaint lodged by the various National political parties in Manipur, the State Chief Electoral Officer has written a letter to the Election Commission of India requesting the latter to consider the matter with the importance it deserves, the source disclosed.

Though the Commission is also aware of the matter, it has not yet given any response in this regard, the source added.

Setback for Congress in Chingai A/C : Our Correspondent reports from Ukhrul: In a major set-back to the ruling Congress party 27 Executive members of the Chingai Block Congress Committee (BCC I) and Ukhrul District Congress Committee DCC (I) submitted en mass resignation to the president DCC (I) Ukhrul today.

Dickson Ngalung, Treasurer DCC (I) and exDistrict Councillor, Phungreitang, Ukhrul along with BCC (I) & DCC (I) members of 45 Chingai A/C expressed great anguish and grave concern upon the vested deci sion and the manner of selecting A Aza as the candidate to contest in the upcoming Assembly election from 45 Chingai A/C by the MPCCI/AICC authorities in contradiction to the proposal of BCC(I) grass root workers and DCC(I) Ukhrul.

According to sources, BCC(I) and DCC(I) along with all its active workers and 6000 members unanimously and unconditionally tendered their resignation en mass from the primary membership of the Congress party today in protest.

We would like to make the party high command and the traditional party workers to understand that such type of double standard and hood winked policy will not be a tolerated, they said.
