In protest against the arrest of four persons from Nambol Laimaram and demanding their unconditional release, a large number of agitating womenfolk stormed at the post of 8th GR located at Nambol Naorem Mantha Ching today.
Subsequently, all the four arrested persons were released and handed over to Nambol Police Station at around 2.30 pm today.
They are Ningthoujam Milan (33) s/o Ningthoujam Ibohal of Leimaram Mayai Leikai, Maitram Yaima (35) s/o Maitram Kumar of Leimaram Makha Leikai, Laichombam Charai (30) s/o late Laichombam Khomdon of Leimaram Awang Leikai Maning and Angom Kullachandra (25) s/o late Angom Lala of Leimaram Awang Leikai Mamang.
According to their family members, all four of them are innocent and married family men.
Last midnight, personnel of 8 GR posted at Nambol Naorem Mantha Ching picked them up from their respective houses.
No arrest memo have been issued at the time of their arrest.
But when some of the family members went to secure their release this morning, the memorandum handed over to them mentioned that Ningthoujam Milan and Angom Kullachandra as UNLF activists, Maitram Yaima as KYKL activist and Laichombam Charai as PLA activist.
As the news about the arrest of the four innocent persons spread, women-folks of Leimaram and its surrounding area stormed at the post of 8th GR early morning today.
But the security personnel herded the agitating womenfolks 300 metres away from the post toward the side of Oinam Wangoi Road and allowed only some of the women representatives to meet the post commander.
They demanded unconditional release of the arrested persons.
