Troopers of 24 Assam Rifles reportedly killed a suspected underground activist during an encounter at Govajang, 4 kms north of Moreh Police Station at around 4 am today.
In a statement, PIB Defence Wing said that troops of 24 Assam Rifles shot dead a KCP cadre at Govajang early morning today, while he was trying to sneak into Indian territory.
The statement said that the AR troops saw one person moving in a suspicion manner and on being challenged to stop, he opened fire and tried to escape.
The troops also retaliated and in the ensuing gun fight, the KCP cadre was killed, added PIB.
One 9 mm pistol with three live rounds were recovered from the site of the incident.
The body of the suspected UG was handed over to Moreh police.
Though the post-mortem had been conducted at Lilong PHC, the same was brought and deposited at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital here for identification.
On the other hand, a suspected activist of KRA was reportedly killed by 14 Assam Rifles during an encounter near T Waichong along IT Road under Kangpokpi Police Station today morning.
Kangpokpi PS received the report at around noon and a police team have gone to the area to retrieve the body.
