Imphal, February 06:
Samata Party leader Jaya Jaitley has accused Congress party of playing delaying tactics in scrapping the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
Jaitley also came down heavily on AICC presidents remarks that the Government is seriously looking in the demand of the people of Manipur to remove the Act saying She (Sonia Gandhi) was fooling around with the people.
Referring to Sonias remarks during the public meeting at Hafta Kangjeibung here yesterday where she said that the Centre is minutely studying the report prepared by the Justice Jeevan Reddy Committee, Jaitley ridiculed the Central leaders and asked are they really slow in reading the report' ? Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the flag hoisting rituals of Samata Party candidate N Nodiachand Singh at the latters Uripok Yambem Leikai residence today, Jaitley pointed out that the Jeevan Reddy Committee was set up by the Centre to study the reaction of the people, civil society organisations and stakeholders on the Act and subsequently the Committee submitting its report with the recommendation that the Act should be scrapped.
She also chastised the Congress legislators of the State for not supporting the proposal of the Opposition to pass a regulation against the Act on the floor of the State Assembly.
Continuing her attack on Sonias version that the law and order and economic status of the State have been improved comparatively since her last visit to Manipur five years back, Jaitley shot back I have been frequently visiting the State and all the problems have worsened during the SPF regime.
Law and order is grave and the rate of violence is very high.
There is no sign of any specific development in all fronts.
Power supply is erratic and the roads are horrible, she said, adding that all the promises made by the Congress leaders are hypocrisies of elections.
It is very easy to make promises but hard to implement them after they came to power, Jaitley said, adding that Samata Party would act according to the aspirations of the people if voted to power.
Jaya Jaitley and the partys National secretary Shivkumar, party candidate of Uripok Assembly Constituency Nodiachand were among other party leaders who spoke during the flag hoisting ceremony.
Samata party has fielded five candidates to contest in the three-phased State Assembly polls scheduled to take place during the current months.
