Imphal, January 31 2009: The 3rd and 4th Module ASHA Training was held at PHC Lambui in Ukhrul district from Jan 24 to 27 under the sponsorship of National Rural Health Mission.

The training programme supervised by Ukhrul block management unit has benefited the Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) members representing 34 villagers under PHC Lambui.

The event was designed to train the ASHA members in dealing with several cases like, prevention of RTI/STD, giving special care during pregnancy and delivery, countering the menace of common diseases like malaria, tuberculosis, dysentery etc.

During the training programme, the ASHA members were also stressed on the importance of Family Planning which includes counselling women on spacing in their child birth and caring for children from the time of birth until they attain the age of four.

Special counselling was given to all the trainees by the Medical Officer of Women Hospital Ukhrul who led a team of Doctors from PHC Lambui and Ayush PHC Lambui.

Ukhrul block finance consultant, S Songachan exhorted the ASHA members on the guidelines of utilising and managing funds allotted for the village health and sanitation committee.

He encouraged the participants to observe village health day twice in a month in collaboration with the Anganwadi health workers, saying such initiative would ensure awareness especially among the children on how to keep themselves free from illness.

Informing the pregnant women and children about the facilities available at their respective primary health centres and sub centres, Songachan said, women who get their child delivered at home are given Rs 500 each and others who need the care of medical institution or hospital are given Rs 700 each under JSY scheme, he added.

On implementation of several programmes meant for the villagers, the finance consultant expressed regret saying, funds released for Capacity Building and Action Plan have not reached the concerned blocks for about three years now, and conveyed the authority concerned to look into the matter in the interest of the underprivileged people.
