The Zomi Students' Federation has condemned the killing of IGP (Intelligence) T Thangthuam on December 31.A statement issued by the student body demanded an inquiry into the killing by CBI while decrying disruption of bus service between Imphal and Churachandpur on the slightest pretext.
It further appealed to all individuals/parties/organisations to shun violence, but live and let live in peace and harmony.
On the other hand, the student body has urged the State Government to implement the MOU signed on August 25 last to ensure basic human needs and to provide social security by undertaking exclusive sanitisation in Churachandpur and other hill district against IEDs.
The Anal Naga Students' Union has also strongly condemned the killing of the IG while sharing the grief and sorrow felt by the bereaved family, informed the Union in a statement.
Meanwhile, all the members of the teaching staff, non-teaching staff and students of the Maharaja Bodhchandra College have condoled the demise of Thangthuam who was a former HOD of English Department of the College by observing two minutes silence to pay respect to the departed soul, said a press release issued by the College.
Likewise, all officers and ranks of Manipur Jail Department have condoled the killing of the IG and the escort commander in a condolence meeting held today and they also expressed their share in the grief and agony felt by the bereaved families.
