Imphal, February 13:
Hailing the rationalisation of teachers postings and transfers from the primary level to the higher secondary, the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur today said that though a lot remains to be done this is the first positive step.
In a statement, the student body said that the new policy may inconvenience some teachers, but that should not be an issue to lodge any protest.
DESAM acknowledged that there is a shortage of about 3000 teachers, but added that under this excuse many teachers have not been dispensing with their duties properly and added that some sincere teachers have had to take on the work load of more than five or six teachers.
It is a pity that none of the teachers' body has highlighted this picture, said the student body.
Urging the teachers to collectively take up the challenges ahead and ensure that students are not robbed of their right to education, the student body suggested that if the Govt does not want to fill up the vacant posts, then the teachers may resign enmasse.
It would be a gross travesty of justice for the teachers to shirk their responsibilities and merely complain about the transfer and posting policy of the Government, said DESAM.
It is also not becoming of the teachers to raise their voice only about their salaries and pay.
The student also urged the teachers not to bring their transfer and posting case to DESAM are anybody else but to dispense with their duty sincerely.
At any given time, DESAM will back the teachers, if they have any genuine grouse, but complaining when transferred is certainly not a genuine cause, it observed.
