Imphal, March 01:
Suspicions on fraudulent withdrawal of sanctioned fund under Sarnya Jayenti Saheri Rozgar Yojana scheme amounting to Rs7,96,139 has been raised against former chairman of Samurou Nagar Panchayat, M Dhoni, executive engineer T Jayenti and joint secretary of Community Development Samurou Nagar Panchayat, L Anita.
In a press briefing held today at the office of Samurou Panchayat, vice-president of Samurou Nagar Panchayat Pheiroijam Achouba Luwang observed that works implemented under SJSRY and the sanctioned amount have a gulf of difference both in terms of quantity and quality because of which people have expressed strong reservation against these works.
The works included under the scheme are construction of two slabs over Samurou Bazar drain at a cost of Rs 30,000, construction of urinal by Imphal river bank at Samurou at a cost of Rs 30,000, construction of Bazar Lairembi complex and construction of community hall cum market centre at a cost of Rs 7 lakhs.
All the materials used in the construction of community hall cum market centre including the roof tins are second-hand, alleged Achouba and added that water leaks through the roof when it rains which caused severe inconvenience to the women vendors making their livelihood with the meagre income that they earn from the market by selling vegetables.
However, all the money for these works have been withdrawn in January last year, he disclosed.
