In a landmark judgement, the Imphal Bench of Gauhati High court has issued an order today directing the District and Sessions Judge, Manipur East to make an inquiry into the case of indiscriminate firing by CRPF at Tera Bazar on August 25, 1993 and to submit the inquiry report within four months in which one Manimohon sustained bullet
injuries.
A statement issued by Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) informed that a case was filed in 2003 in this connection of which the respondents were the Union of India represented by the Secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India, Director General of CRPF, ADIG of CRPF Group Centre, Langjing, Commt of 199 Bn of CRPF, the State of Manipur represented by Principal Secretary (Home) and the DGP, Manipur.
The present writ petition is being filed at the initiative of HRLN, it added.
Following the shootout on the fateful day between CRPF and unidentified UGs, Manimohon then running a grocery shop near Tera police outpost hastened to close his shop.
While doing so some CRPF personnel came to his shop and fired upon him without any warning at his right arm and stomach, recounted the statement.
