Stepping up its drive against tax defaulters, State Electricity Department has started launching a massive drive to disconnect the power lines of consumers whose due tax is above Rs 3000.The drive has been conducted since Tuesday last at places like Keishampat, Thouda Bhabok Leikai, Haobam Marak, Pishum and Mongshangei which are under Imphal Electrical Division and till date the power lines of over 50 consumers have been cut off.
Similar drive was also conducted today at Keishamthong Moirang Ningthou Leirak during which the power lines of about 10 consumers have been disconnected.
Tomorrow, the drive will be launched at Hodam Leirak besides covering some of the houses which were left out today.
Among the defaulters whose power lines have been snapped so far, the one with the highest amount of due bill is Rs 23,000.The power drive will continue under the jurisdiction of Imphal Electrical Division-I till September 15.Besides this legal action will also be taken up against unauthorized power connection with the help of the police, source said.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by Executive Engineer (Electrical), Sub-Station Construction Division-II Ng Birjit Singh today said that informed that oil replacement and centrifuging work for 33/11 KV, 5 MVA transformer at Thoubal would be carried out from Aug 28.
