MAHUD Minister L Nandakumar today said that the BT road stretch from Maharani bridge to Gambhir Singh Shopping Arcade would be expanded to facilitate the ongoing construction work of Bir Tikendrajit Flyover and the shops which are likely to affected would be shifted to an alternative site.
Talking to reporters at his office chamber this evening, Nandakumar informed that the expanded road would be 108 feet and 4 inches in width.
With the completion of driving piles for the flyover on Uripok side, similar work would be taken up on BT Road side too and hence expansion of the road is required, he said.
He informed that the IMC has been already given instruction for submitting a report on the shops likely to be affected by the move.
However, he hastened to add that the Government would not be dismantling these shops till construction of alternative shops permanently at a suitable location within the market area itself.
