The year-long golden jubilee celebration of Theatre Centre, Manipur has been kicked started at Rupmahal Theatre here from today.
The year-long theatrical bonanza is being organized in conjunction with Manipur State Kala Akademi (MSKA), Imphal.
MASK secretary Dr Kh Sorojini Devi and Rupmahal Theatre chairman Ch Gopal Singh attended the inaugural function as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Sorojini said that attributed existence of a glorious theatrical heritage in the State to the efforts of the committed and pioneering theatre personalities.
Admitting that many of the theatre groups in the State are facing numerous problems, MSKA secretary assured all possible help to these theatre groups from the side of MSKA and Department of Arts and Culture.
In his presidential address, Ch Gopal noted that the prevailing law and order condition and financial position of the State has great impact on its theatrical movement.
Peace is of paramount important for flourishing of art and culture, he said, appealing to all the theatre lovers to contribute their mite towards ushering in peace and harmony in society.
Besides unveiling a souvenir to mark the occasion, MSKA secretary Dr Sorojini also announced commencement of a nine-day Manipur Theatre Festival, 2004 which is being organized as part of the golden jubilee celebration.
In all nine theatre groups are taking part in the festival.
On the first day today, Repertory for Performing Arts of Manipur (REPAM), Keishamthong staged, �Bolaramgee Thawai�, a social play.
