Personnel of 22 Maratha Light Infantry who were on ROP duty have arrested a suspected underground activist and recovered three guns from the car in which he was travelling along two other colleagues when it met with an accident near Navodaya Vidyalaya School, Khumbong at around 6.30 am today.
According to report, the car (Maruti Zen (MN06L-1746) fell into a road side drain when the suspected underground activists tried to course on seeing the security personnel.
When the security personnel approached the ill-fated car, they saw the guns and resorted to blank firing and managed to arrest one UG while two others managed to escape.
The arms recovered include two AK-56 Rifles and one 9 mm pistol, the report added.
On the other hand, a GREF personnel sustained injury and both the front and rear tyres of the vehicle of 1 AR were punctured when suspected underground activists allegedly fired at the vehicle at Kasom in Ukhrul district at around 2.30 pm today.
Meanwhile, a combined force of Bishnupur District police commandos, personnel of 11 Garhwal Rifles and 7 Assam Rifles have reportedly arrested five activists of different underground outfits, namely PLA/RPF, PREPAK and KYKL, from different parts of the district during the last twenty four hours.
According to police source, one RPF/PLA activist identified as Thokchom Chungba (22) of Moirang Thana Leikai and two KLKL activists identified as Wahengbam Rajen (39) of Old Market, Churachandpur and Phairembam Chandrakumar alias Kumar of Moirang Khunou were arrested last nigh at around 6.45.While another activist of RPF/PLA identified as Oinam Kunjabi (45) of Kumbi Chandrapur and another PREPAK member identified as Laishram Tamubi alias Naoba (18) of Thinungei were nabbed today.
KCP cadres held with arms: Troops of 38 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 27 Sector AR apprehended a cadre of KCP with arms identified as Firoz Khan of Sana, Thoubal in the early hours of today from Khumbong.
At the time of arrest, Firoz was with two of his accomplice in a Maruti car bearing registration number ML-06 4746.The two managed to escape.
On searching the vehicle two AK-47 rifles, 34 rounds and a 9 mm pistol was recovered from the seized vehicle, said a release of PIB (DF).
IM man held: Imphal West Police Commandos have reportedly arrested an activist of NSCN (I-M) from in front of LIC Office, Khoyathong today morning.
Based on information that some anti-social elements are loitering in the general area of Khoyathong and North AOC, Imphal, the commandos conducted search operation since early morning today and the NSCN (I-M) was arrested during the course of operation, SP of Imphal West informed in a statement.
The police identified as the arrested underground activist as one SP Rex alias Alex (26) s/o SP Joseph of Singcha, UKhrul district.
During the course of the interrogation, Rex disclosed that he is holding the rank of a corporal of the outfit.
IRB man thrashed: An IRB personnel has been overpowered, thrashed and handed over to police by residents of Kakhulong (Paona Bazar) for extorting money from a non-Manipuri business man running a PCO in the locality.
The incident took place at around 11 am today.
Identity of the IRB man said to belong to the III Bn is established as Md Hessamuddin (25) s/o Md Sirajuddin of Mayang imphal Bengoon.
