Are the police also involved in the racket of stealing or buying stolen vehicles ? This is a million dollar question that has come up following recovery of an Alto car, that had been carjacked after the driver was beaten up, from the possession of a police commando.
The car has been seized from the possession of a police commando by the Manipur Rifles today and the same handed over to the police.
According to police sources, on September 27, the white colour Alto car (NL-07/5167) belonging to one Taxi service provider identified as Peter Mangte Kom of Nambol Leimaram but presently staying at Burma Camp of Dimapur was hired by some persons for going to Kiyamgei at the rental charge of Rs 7,000 .
However, on arrival at Kiyamgei, after making Peter Mangte take them to all the places they wanted to visit, those who hired the car from Dimapur bashed up Peter Mangte and disappeared with the car.
Consequently, along with reporting the matter, Peter Mangte registered a case with the Irilbung Police Station which in turn relayed the information to all other police stations and security agencies.
To Mangte's good fortune, personnel of 2nd Manipur Rifles were on frisking duty at Khongman Mangil area today morning when they intercepted the same Alto car while being driven by one personnel attached with the Imphal West District Police Commandos.
The car has been seized and handed over to Irilbung Police Station.
During interrogation, the Commando personnel in question who was not on duty today reportedly informed that he had brought the car for a test drive with the intention of buying it from another person.
Subsequently, the police have also arrested the person who was allegedly trying to sell the hijacked car.
The arrested person who is currently in the custody of Irilbung Police has been identified as Pangabam Achou alias Angouba of Ucheckon Khunou.
While informing that the identities of the persons who hired the car from Dimapur in the first place have not yet been established, police said that further investigations are on to arrest the others.
2nd bomb attack : For the second time, unidentified gunmen attacked the Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai residence of Moirangthem Biren who is the proprietor of Liberty Shoe Store located at Thangal Bazar, with bomb.
The attack occurred at around 5.45 am today.
The bomb landed and exploded in the courtyard.
No one was injured in the attack.
Unidentified gunmen had also exploded a Chinese-made hand grenade at the residence of Biren on the night of September 6 .
On June 20 last, two round of firing at also been opened at his house by unidentified persons.
In connection with the earlier bomb attack, Biren informed that proscribed PREPAK had demanded Rs 2 lakhs from him in June last.
