Activists of the banned RPF�s central bureau division No-III seized 28,800 can beers brought from Moreh side.
The seized consignment said to worth about Rs 12.96 lakh was burnt at a Thoubal district area yesterday evening.
A truck (MN05/3794) and registered under the name of one Chowdra Bahadur of Chingmeirong Khongnang Ani karak, in which the can beers were being ferried has also been torched.
The driver is said to be one Tekcham Sanjoy Singh s/o Amutombi of Khongjom Tekcham Mamang Leikai.
Speaking to mediapersons, a spokesman of the proscribed RPF detailed that the can beers were loaded to the vehicle in 1200 cartoons and was intercepted at Samram Laikon at around 7 am yesterday.
Maintaining that the can beers were meant to be delivered to one Inao of Khongjom Patpal, the RPF�s department of information publicity spokesman also asked Inao to surrender within five days to avoid severest form of penalty.
He also reiterated RPF/PLA�s commitment to free the manipuri society from the scourge of drugs and alcohol since the early part of 1990 and alleged that unscrupulous elements are working hand in glove with adversary forces to drown upcoming generations in intoxicants.
Meanwhile, a woman, whom the RPF accused of trading in the banned betel leaf (mithamana), has surrendered to the outfit today.
The woman has been identified as Angom Ongbi Sakhi Devi (45) of Taothong Khunou.
On disclosures of two other betel leaf traders - maimom (O) Madhubala alias Landhoni and NS Monika some days back, the RPF/PLA had asked sakhi Devi to give in to the armed group.
Parading the lady before mediapersons at an Imphal West district, spokesperson of the outfit detailed that Sakhi bought betel leaves from a tribal woman of Senapati for sale at Taothong apart from supplying the same item to Monika and Madhubala.
Sakhi also runs a shop at Nagamapal.
On Sakhi�s disclosures it is now clear that another woman from Thoubal whose name is also Sakhi, Hemabati of Kakwa and one Bino, whose address is yet to be ascertained are also involved in trade of the banned tobacco item, the spokespersons said and asked the latter trio to surrender within five days.
One KYKL cadre held : Acting on specific inputs, troops of 39 Assam Rifles launched an operation in the general area of Chingarel yesterday during which one KYKL cadre was arrested, said the PRO of Assam Rifles in a statement today.
The arrested has been identified as Pvt Premjit (24) and he has been handed over to Lamlai police station, added the statement.
