Imphal, April 26:
The internal wrangling in the Manipur People's party (MPP) took a new turn with a section of the dispute-infested organisation holding a special political conference that culminated in the 'expulsion' of newly elected party president L Borajao and his four close aides.
The conference was held at Kuki Inn, Imphal today with MPP legislature wing leader Dr Nimaichand luwang and MLA O joy Singh attending the session as the chief guest and president respectively.
The congregation also endorsed the proposal for unification/amalgamation of State level political outfits under a single entity.
Endorsing the unification move is said to be in compliance with popular demand from NGOs and intellectual circle of the State which followed an earlier resolution of MPP's Working Committee as well as the Central Committee's decision which was approved in today's conference.
With reference to the MPP Constitution the special conference also extended the tenure of O Joy's presidentship for six months accounted from january 1 this year with similar status accorded to other office bearers and relevant committees.
The session deciding that the last presidential election had violated certain guidelines of the political organisation which was claimed to have been substantiated by the inquiry committee report on the matter further resolved to conduct a fresh organisational election.
With the special conference also observing that president-designate L Borajao had defied verdict of MPP's competent authority on conduct of the presidential election and accusing the same individual for the current fissure in the party as well as causing delay in unification processes of regional political parties also decided to expel Borajao and four others for six years.
other prominent MPP members castigated in today's conference included AK Sanaton, O Jugindro, A Dilip and L Gosai.
It also ruled as void and null the party's general conference cum presidential election held on December 31 last in addition to strong condemnation over alleged high handedness of police personnel against four MPP members recently.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nimaichand Luwang asserted that all adversary forces attempting to derail amalgamation of local political outfits into a regional organisation would be dealt with appropriately.
Rather that try to foil the unification process it would be wiser to join hands and strengthen the single entity aspiration, mooted O joy in his brief deliberation.
