Imphal, January 25 2010: Amid tight security measures taken by the authorities on the eve of the Republic Day celebrations, two powerful bombs exploded this evening in Imphal injuring three personnel of Manipur police commandos.

An IED exploded near the Manipur Mountaineering Training Academy (MMTA) near Minuthong in Imphal West district around 7.25 pm today.

As soon as police commandos received news about the bomb blast, they rushed to the spot when the second IED planted on the road exploded injuring three of them.

The three injured Manipur police commandos have been admitted to RIMS hospital for treatment.

Hospital sources said, condition of the three injured police commandos was not all that serious.

Meanwhile, the underground KCP(MC) group of Lanheiba Meitei has claimed responsibility for the bomb blast.

DGP's mother under threat On the other hand, even as the state administration intensifies security measures on the eve of the Republic Day celebration in Imphal and other sensitive areas, the mother of Manipur police chief reportedly received a bomb threat from unidentified persons today.

Director General of Police (DGP) Y Joykumar has so far not reacted till the filing of this report.

Two hand grenades were found planted at the shop of Y Thambal Devi, mother of DGP Y Joykumar this morning at Naoremthong Bazar in Imphal West district.

No one has claimed responsibility for the act.

On receiving report of the incident, a team of police bomb squad rushed to Thambal's shop and removed the two handgrenades, and taken away.

The two handgrenades were found planted in front of the shop.

No specific threats received from any particular of the insurgents groups except announcing boycott of the day by calling general strike.

The general strike commences from 1 am to 5.30 pm on January 26 .

1002 security personnel deployed Amidst tightened security on the eve of the celebration of 60th Republic Day, suspected unknown militants threatened mother of the state police DGP in Imphal with bombs on Monday morning.

State government has put on alert over 1000 state security forces including officers of SP ranks and below have put on alert in and around place to the routes where march past contingents as part of celebration in state capital Imphal to march.

Women CRPF personnel of two platoon and one and half section have also be called out to assist the state security.

Apart from assisting state police by personnel of state security force, women CRPF, home guards and unarmed recently recruit personnel of Manipur Rifles and IRB have been called out to protect the routes to be taken by the march past contingents tomorrow morning as part of the state level celebration.

Commanding Officer, E Priyokumar of 1st MR is the parade commander on the celebration in which Governor Gurbachan Jagat will be the chief guest and will be presided over by the Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh.

The main function will be held at the parade ground of the 1st Manipur Rifles ground tomorrow morning.

Four teams of Anti-riot squad, one anti-hijacking and prevention team and mobile teams of Imphal west and east district police commandos have also been reserved and kept alert to rush at any time.

DIG, range-1 (Law & Order) M Karnajit has been appointed as over all in-charge of the security arrangement specially for preventing disruptive acts that are likely to come up from the insurgent groups boycotting the celebration of the day like the previous years, an official source said.

A total of 1002 security personnel including ranks of SPs of Imphal east and west district and Commanding Officers (COs) of Manipur Rifles and IRB have been deployed at as many as 105 strategic locations.

All security personnel have taken post by 2 pm today.

Imphal west district police has detailed 902 personnel under the command of the Senior SP of the district.

The Senior SP will be assisted by five Cos of Manipur Rifles and IRB, two additional SPs and two deputy commandants, four DSP, six assistant commandants and 10 inspectors.

The district police are deploying police and state security personnel at as many as 90 locations including high raise buildings located on both sides of the routes to be taken by the march past contingents.

A total of 180 police personnel, 80 MR/IRB men assisted by 300 home guard personnel and newly recruit MR/IRB personnel currently undergoing training have taken post at the said 90 locations have taken post in their respective assigned places, a highly official source said.

Two platoons of women CRPF have also taken post by 2 pm at various places to assist the police.

Twelve mobile police team, four anti riot squads and one anti-hijacking preventive team were put on alert.

Imphal east district police also assigned 190 personnel under the supervision of SP of the district to prevent any untoward incidents during the Republic day celebration.

The SP will be assisted by one CO, two additional SP, two DSP and 11 inspectors.

Twenty-five constables, 20 riflemen of MR and IRB, 100 home guards and newly recruit personnel under the unit commands of 16 SI and 10 ASI have been deployed in as many as 15 locations within the Imphal east jurisdiction, the source said adding that one and half section women CRPF are assisting the civil police.
