Imphal, October 24: A combined force of 4 Assam Rifles personnel posted at Mantripukhri and Chingarel reportedly shot dead an underground activist along the Phaknung IT Road leading to Sawombung Kabui Khunjao, 5 kms west of Lamlai Police Station at around 10.30 pm yesterday.

The identity of the slain underground activist has not yet been identified.

But it is said that he appears to be around 35 years of age with fair-complexion, tall stature and flowing hair.

He was found clad in a white coloured T-shirt with a military coloured full-shirt on top and a blue-coloured track suit.

There were a bullet mark on his head and a portion of the eye had been shattered.

Conforming the report, PRO HQ IGAR (S) said that based on specific information, troops of 4 Assam Rifles under 9 Sector of HQ IGAR (South) launched operation in general area of Sawombung yesterday.

The troops noticed suspicious movement of a person on the Sawombung-Phaknung road and on being challenged by troops the suspicious person opened fire.

The troops also retaliated and in the ensuing fire fight the suspected person was killed.

One 9 mm pistol Bretta made in Belgium and one 9 mm pistol made in Bulgaria and five live rounds of ( mm ammunition were recovered during the course of search the site after the incident, the PRO informed, adding that the slain unidentified UG along with recovered items have been handed over to Lamlai Police Station.

The body has been picked up by Lamlai Police and deposited the same at the mortuary of RIMS.

Stabbed to death : Unidentified persons stabbed to death a person at the paddy field near Nepra Leirak along Koirou Road, about three and half kms south west of Singjamei Police Station last night.

The body of the victim who appears to be around 30 years of age was found by the local people early morning today.

The victim has fair complexion with lean body and around 5 feet and 4 inches tall.

The ear lobes of the victim are not pierced and has the physical structures of a tribal.

He was found wearing a grey and white stripped full sleeve T-shirt and maroon colour trousers.

There were deep stabbing wounds on his chest, left stomach and calf of the right leg as well as not so deep wounds on the right chest rib and near the right eye.

Blood were found splattered all around th area for over a distance of 15 metres from the site where the body was foud lying.

Police have picked up the body and deposited the same at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.
