Administration set to get a face lift, district police to be streamlined

Imphal, August 23 2011:
Even as the United Naga Council along with a number of Naga frontal organisations have made their stand clear against the granting of district status on Sadar Hills on the ground that it would impinge on the ancestral land of the Nagas, the Cabinet which met this evening has decided to constitute a Committee on Reorganisation of Administration and Police District boundary to streamline administration of the State.
The Chief Secretary, DS Poonia will head the Committee as its Chairman while the members, among others, will include the Principal Secretary (RD and PR), DGP, and the Commissioner of Revenue Department.
The Committee is expected to submit its report within three months, said Government spokesman and IFCD Minister N Biren while briefing newsmen after the Cabinet meeting today evening.
The primary task of the Committee would be to reorganise the areas of jurisdiction for the respective district police as well as streamline the district administrations.

The Government will act according to the report submitted by the Committee, said the spokesman.
Apart from deciding to form the Committee, the Cabinet also studied the possibility of constituting a group to get in touch with the agitating parties and resolve the blockades and bandhs on the National Highways.
The group, once formed will get in touch with the agitating organisations and try to work out a feasible solution, said the spokesman.
The Cabinet also dwelt at length on the steps to be taken up to ensure free movement of essential commodities, in the face of the severe hardships faced by the people following the cut off along the National Highways.
Following a proposal from the Self Financed Institute of Chartered Financial Analysis of India, the Cabinet has agreed to set up a university in Manipur.
The entire fund will be borne by the Institute while the State Government will provide the land.
As in other Government Departments, the Assured Credited Payment Scheme is set to be introduced in the PDA too.
