A woman was killed while four other persons including the driver sustained injuries when the Tata Sumo in which they are travelling slipped over the greasy oil spilled on the road by suspected general strike supporters near Oriental College Gate along National Highway 53 early morning today even as normal life remained affected due to the violence marred twin-general strike being called by Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) and JAC Against the Killing of N Binoy alias Khaiba over different demands.

The incident occurred at around 5.45 am when the passenger service Tata Sumo bearing registration no MN01K-7751 was coming towards Imphal from Tamenglong.
When it approached the gate of Oriental College, some people reportedly tried to stop the vehicle.
But thinking that they might be strike supporters, the driver picked up speed and slipped over the greasy oil.
The Tata Sumo overturned before it fell on one side.
The deceased woman has been identified as Dijayangliu (50) of Wangkhong village, Tamenglong.
The body has been handed over to her family members after post-mortem conducted at RIMS morgue later in the afternoon.
The other four persons who sustained injuries in the incident and are undergoing treatment at RIMS have been identified as G Golmei (18) of Keikao, who was at the wheel when the accident occurred, Ahenma Rongmei (40) of Thouveng, Ganthoidai (48) of Kekru Khul, Lugailung (44) and her husband Tailungkho (50) of Nungba Part-I.Stray incidents of violence including road block, smashing of glass pane of vehicles and burning of effigies were also reported from different places during the twin general strike being which came into effect from last midnight and 6 am today respectively.
Since early morning strike supporters came out to block the Tiddim Road by burning old tyres and spilling greasy oil.
However, with the arrival of police the strike supporters were chased away, the fire doused and the road cleared.
At Singjamei Parking area, strike supporters scattered glass shards and placed boulders and wooden planks on the road to dissuade the people from venturing out.
The glasses/mirrors of around 10 two wheelers and one Tata truck bearing registration no.MN06T-0078 which were going out in defiance of the strike were also broken by the strike supporters who also pelting stones at the people who came out of their houses.
The effigies of Chief Minister were also set on fire.
Similar scenes were also witnessed at Uripok, Naoremthong, Kongba, Wangkhei, Thangmeiband, Khongnang Ani Karak and Sangakpam area.
All the important market places in the four valley districts including the Khwairamband Bazar at Imphal and other business establishments remained closed for the day with inter-district transport staying off the road.
Educational institutions also remained closed for the day and the attendance in the Government offices was reported to be thin.
Banks were also closed.
According to police source, the strike did not have its impact in the hill districts although there were no inter-district bus services and the crowd in the market places was lesser than normal.
