Imphal, December 16 2008: For the by-election to Moirang Assembly Constituency scheduled to be held on December 27, electioneering by both the contesting parties has hit a fever-pitch stage.

Briefing mediapersons at his home at Moirang Kiyam Leikai in connection with the forthcoming by-election, Congress candidate Mairenbam Prithiviraj said that other than the mandatory minimum 18 years of age, there is no age criteria for contesting elections according to the Constitution of India.

In the context of the global political dynamics, the role of youth and their perceptions need serious analysis, he asserted.

He claimed that he is contesting the by-election determined to complete development projects taken up by his late father Mairenbam Manindra and also to take up new ones across the length and breadth of Moirang A/C."I'm not contesting the election as a political expert," he said.

"Yet, seeing the massive support of the people, I'm confident that I will be victorious in the by-election", Prithiviraj said.

Born on November 20, 1978, Prithiviraj cleared HSLC Exam in first division from Moirang Multi-Purpose Higher Secondary School in 1995 .

He completed his secondary schooling from Mt Carmel School, Anand Niketan, New Delhi in 1997 .

After graduating from Kirorimal College, Delhi in History (Honours), he did PG Diploma in Services Industry Management at ITFT Chandigarh.

Then he completed MBA course from Mysore University.

Prithiviraj who grew up as a social activist was introduced to politics by his father.

Saying that his father joined politics following the footsteps of former Chief Minister Koireng, Prithiviraj claimed that his father who spent most of his life in social activity, strove to develop historic Moirang to a prominent level.

Late MLA Manindra made his best efforts to develop Moirang in such fields as sports, tourism, culture etc from MLA Local Area Development Fund along with the assistance of the Army but he expired before the projects could be completed, Prithiviraj said while claiming that he came out to contest the by-election under immense pressure from Congress workers and sympathisers so that the development projects/works taken up by his late father can be completed.

Saying that his election campaign is going on without any hitch, Prithiviraj asserted that there should be proper coordination between Govt and people in order to bring peace and development in the State.

He pledged that as a young man he would put in his best efforts to settle all differences and conflicts through peaceful dialogue.

"If I don't win the by-poll, I would not quit politics for I have put my foot in this field," the young Prithiviraj asserted.
