Imphal, February 10: Acting on feedback provided by Returning Officers and Observers and taking into account material circumstances the Election Commission of India has ordered re-poll in 11 polling stations in Thoubal and Senapati districts.

The re-polling would be held on February 12 from 7 am till 3.30 pm.

The polling stations in Thoubal district where re-polls would be held are 37/25 Kakching Khullen makha High School in Kakching AC and 38/27 Thounaojam Primary School in Hiyanglam AC.

For Senapati district re-polling has been ordered for Karong AC in 47/29 Ngari Khullen LP School whereas Mao Ac would witness re-poll in five polling stations concerning 48/1 Pudunamei (A) Junior High School, 48/2 Pudunamei (B) Junior HS, 48/15 Upper Sajouba (A) UJB School, 48/16 Sajouba (B) UJB School and 48/17 Sajouba (C) UJB School.

In Tadubi AC repoll would be held in 49/6 Tadubi (A) Mao Maram Hr Sec School, 49/9 Rajamei UJB School and 49/21 New Makhan (B) Primary School.

Meanwhile, security personnel to man polling stations for the second phase polling to elect 29 incumbents to the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly have started to fan out.

The second phase polls to be held on February 14 would cover Bishnupur, Imphal east and imphal West districts with 365 polling stations to be opened in Imphal West district out of which 30 are declared hyper sensitive and the rest falling under sensitive category thereby necessitating adequate provision of security forces.

For Imphal West district two section each of Central para-military forces would be stationed in 64 polling stations while one section each would man the other polling centres.

Imphal East electorates would cast their votes in 299 polling stations out of which 77 are clustered under hyper sensitive and 214 declared sensitive.

Two section each of Central forces would be deployed in 59 of these polling stations with the remaining ones to be manned by one section each.

Bishnupur district voters would participate in the democratic exercise in 171 polling stations with 74 falling under hyper sensitive and 97 declared as sensitive.

To ensure smooth conduct of the four section each of Central forces would be deployed in three polling stations, 75 of them to be manned by two section each while votes would be cast in the remaining polling stations guarded by one section each.

On the otherhand, the Congress party which completed five years of governance along with its SPF ally cpi, today exuded confidence of pocketing at atleast 11 seats out of 19 assembly constituencies that went to the polls in the first phase on February 8. Thoubal with 10 ACs, Senapati with six and three assembly segments in Ukhrul district were covered in the first phase polling held under tight security vigil.

�Altogether we will retain 11 seats in the just concluded first phase polls with five from Ukhrul and senapati and six from Thoubal ACs, speculated MPCC�s general secretary (administration) Vidyapati Senjam.

For the second and third phases covering 41 ACs in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Chandel and Tamenglong districts as well as Jiribam sub-division the Congress is expecting to garner 23 seats, she confided while expressing optimism of reaching the absolute majority mark.

Asserting that the public response towards the Congress in the first phase was overwhelming and after an in-depth study the party is confident of coming out triumphantly in 11 ACs, the MPCC functionary pointed out certain lacunae of the first.

Though the first phase polls passed off without any major untoward incidents non implementation of certain norms laid down by the Election Commission of India during the polling period necessitates serious introspection, she observed.

Elucidating her contention, Vidyapati alleged that in some hyper sensitive polling stations there were instances of poor coverage by digital camera besides security personnel deployed in these polling centres lacking alertness.

�Since two more phases of polls are approaching we would raise the matter to the ECI for prompt redressal,� she maintained.

It may be mentioned that Congress party had fielded its nominees in all the 60 assembly seats before party candidate in Chandel AC withdraw his nomination thereby reducing the Congress figure to 59.
