Imphal, May 09 2009: With regard to the involvement of two personnel of Imphal East district police commando in the abduction of an individual, the district's Superintendent of Police conceded that the accused duo had no approval from their higher-ups even as two more persons allegedly involved in the case have been rounded up.

The two Imphal East district police commando personnel currently in police custody for their involvement in the alleged abduction of a civilian were on off-duty and their act with personal agenda have had a negative impact on the image of the entire police force, said the SP Th Radheshyam.

Addressing newspersons at the Porompat office of the district police head-quarters this morning, Radheshyam opined that the accused commando duo Doukhochong and Thangthang Langlel might have taken out the bullet-proof vehicle (Rakshak Jeep) under the pretext of repairing the same.

he also insisted that Doukhochong and Thangthang had not informed their commander on their intended movement.

The commando duo are accused of whisking away in the Jeep (numberl-less) one Khwairakpam Megha (34) of Liwa Road Naorem Leikai from Khagempalli area on May 6 morning.

While clarifying that they were not assigned duty on that particular day, the SP further confided that owing to a previous incident commando personnel of district have been prohibited from dispensing duties without full uniform other than for 'very important tasks'.

meanwhile, a reliable source informed of the police rounding up two more individuals suspected to be involved in the abduction of Kh Megha.

Disclosing identities of the two as Sorensangbam Shantikumar (28) s/o S Nillo of Naorem Leikai and Laithangbam Sanathoi (26) s/o L Iboyaima of Keibung Oinam Leikai, the source informed that both the arrestees in addition to being known to Megha also live close to the captive's residence.

Shantikumar and Sanathoi have been remanded to police custody till May 16 .

In another development, the abducted Megha whom troops of the 31 AR claimed to have arrested from Moreh Town on Friday morning has also been remanded till May 13 as per decree of a district court.

Megha, accused of being a PLA member was initially handed over to Moreh police station before his final handover to Imphal police station last evening.

According to a reliable source, the claim of Megha being hauled up from the border town by the AR team is not convincing.

The source speculated that as the incident/case is under police investigation, Doukhochong and Langlel might have handed over Megha to the custody of the AR and that possibility of Megha confined at a Palace Compound residence belonging to an ex-MP before his (megha)'s handover to the AR could not be ruled out.
