Imphal, October 08 2025:
A group of 25 BJP MLAs, including former Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, has urged Sambit Patra, the party's North East coordinator, to dissolve the Assembly if the Central leadership is unwilling to install a popular Government in the State.
The proposal was made during a meeting held at Manipur Bhawan in New Delhi today after days of camping in the National Capital.
Notably, the BJP MLAs travelled to New Delhi on October 4 to urge the Central leadership to establish a popular Government in Manipur.
However, Sambit Patra advised the BJP MLAs to bring a consensus among the Meitei, Naga and Kuki MLAs first to restore an elected Government in Manipur, suggesting that the withdrawal of President's Rule is not imminent in the immediate future.
Reportedly, Sambit Patra flew from Odisha to New Delhi today to meet the party MLAs camping in New Delhi.
During the meeting, held from 6 pm to 7 pm, Sambit Patra stated that the Centre is working to restore an elected Government in Manipur before the current President's Rule tenure which was extended for six months from August 13 concludes.
Yesterday, BJP MLAs camping in New Delhi held a meeting and resolved to press the Central leadership to form a Government, believing that extending President's Rule could harm their future prospects.
Sambit Patra, however, advised the MLAs against seeking appointments with party president JP Nadda or Union Home Minister Amit Shah for now.
The BJP leader suggested that the MLA can instead request a meeting with BL Santosh, the party's general secretary (organisation) .
Sambit Patra also reportedly indicated that the MLAs can meet party leaders after the Bihar election, implying that meetings with Central leadership are unlikely in the near future.
Some MLAs reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with Patra's response, and they are considering what course of actions can be taken up.
Notably, Manipur has been under President's Rule since February 13, 2025, following the resignation of the former Chief Minister on February 9.Five State BJP MLAs did not attend the meeting.
The MLAs are Thokchom Radheshyam, Yumnam Radheshyam, S Rajen, Paonam Brojen and Achab Uddin.
