Imphal, May 08: Following the discovery of one Thiyam Herojit of Yairipok Laimanai dead at a spot near Antarctica English School of Yairipok today morning, an enraged mob rose up and attempted to destroy house of one Md Rehman alias Ibothem who is allegedly involved in the killing.

However no serious damage was caused to the house due to timely intervention by SP S Ibocha of Thoubal and CO of 34 AR Col RK Adapa.

According to information received from the incident site, the victim Herojit (18) and Ibothem (31) were close associates but yesterday morning there was a quarrel between the two when Herojit refused to lend mobile phone charger to Ibothem.

Mother of the deceased Manishang informed that her son was called out from the house last evening by Ibothem through another person after which Herojit never returned alive and his body was found today.

Herojit's cousin Ngongocha disclosed that Ibothem sent one person to call out Herojit on the pretext of negotiating a compromise about the quarrel that morning.

As Ngongocha followed his cousin, Herojit sent him back saying that he (Ngongocha) need not accompany him for there was no apprehension for any untoward incident.

On the other hand, locals disclosed that Ibothem alias Md Rehman is a drug abuser and mentioned that gun shots were heard at Yairipok Tulihal area at around 7:30 pm yesterday.

In the attempt by meira paibis and locals to destroy his shop, SP tablets, condoms and other pharmaceutical goods were recovered.

These items were displayed to the media too.

The accused in the killing of Herojit has been nabbed by Thoubal police today at around 12:30 pm from the vicinity of his home at Poirei Khoijil and would be produced before court tomorrow.

In connection with the incident, a JAC christened JAC Against the Killing of Th Herojit was formed in a meeting held at Lamyanba Youth Club, Yairipok.

The JAC resolved to urge the State Government for commensurate punishment to the culprit(s) and decided not to claim the body until Ibothem's accomplices are booked and punished.
