Atleast two persons have been killed while four others were wounded seriously when two powerful bombs exploded one after another at Namphalong market near Moreh today.
Namphalong is in Myanmar bordering Moreh.
The first explosion took place at around 7.20 am and the second went off at around 9.40 am.
In the first explosion, which occurred at Mahingga Hotel located in Namphalong market, the hotel owner was killed at the spot and his wife injured critically.
However a late report said that the hotel owner is still struggling for life.
Following the bomb explosions, Namphalong bazar will remain closed for five days.
Sources said that the hotel owner is of Chinese origin and the bomb is reported to have exploded when he handled a camera which was found at the hotel.
The second explosion occurred at around 9.40 am at Morning Star Hostel and left three persons, one of whom later succumbed, seriously wounded.
The twin explosions caught the people on either side of the border unaware who scampered for cover and safety.
Soon after the first explosion, all the gates on the Indian side of the border were sealed.
The Myanmarese authorities also sealed the Namphalong market immediately and continued to search for other possible bombs.
UG suspect shot dead : A suspected underground activist was killed during a shoot out with Imphal West Commandos near DM College Boys' Hostel under Imphal PS at around 1.30 pm today.
The police commandos have recovered one 9 mm pistol, three bullets and one redcoloured Honda Activa (MN 01N4622) from the possession of the slain UG whose identity is yet to be established.
According to report, Honda Activa is registered in the name of on Kshetrimayum Nobin s/o Krishnamohan of Nagamapal.
However, Nobin has denied having owned such a vehicle and the police are continuing the investigation.
The body has been picked up by the police and deposited at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.
There were bullet wounds on the head and chest of the person who appears to be around 26 years of age and is lean and of medium height with pierced ear lobs, fair complexioned and cropped hair.
The slain person was clad is a blackcolour jean pant and white sweater with black and red strips and a whitesneaker with Addidas logo on it.
Body identified: The identity of the youth who was killed by Imphal East Police Commandos during a shoot out on January 6 evening at Khong Lambi Lairam Loubuk under Porompat PS has been established as a member of KCP (P).
The slain UG was Thangjam Nungnangamba alias Loyangamba (20) s/p Th Satrajit of Kamong Maisnam Leikai under Nambol PS.
According to family members, Loyangamba was a member of KCP (P) and his whereabouts has not been known after he had gone out of the house one week back.
The postmortem of the body was conducted at RIMS today and later handed over to the family members.
