Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing has today asserted that it would be in the interest of the State Govt as well as the public to retain only honest and committed Ministers in the new Ministry after downsizing is effected on July 7.Talking to The Sangai Express from New Delhi, Rishang Keishing opined that the leaders should be extremely careful in appointing the Ministers so as to bring about a stable Govt which would be able ,to translate the dreams of the people into realities.
Speaking on the downsizing issue, Rishang Keishing said that he would like to stay away and remain silent on the sensitive issue but hastened to add that the authorities concerned should minutely examine the performances of the Ministers before retaining or dropping them from the Council of Ministers.
On being questioned why Chief Minister O Ibobi has not been able to meet the AICC president and the Prime Minister at New Delhi till today inspite of being in the capital for the last many days, Rishang Keishing replied that Chief Minister O Ibobi is not sitting idle in New Delhi but trying very hard to meet the Central leaders and further said that the meeting might take place in the next few days.
Rishang also stated that it would be the best policy for the State Govt to conduct the process of Ministry downsizing with the knowledge of the AICC leaders and added that the leaders should be very cautious not to leave any sort of bad images on the Govt after the downsizing process.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh who left Imphal for New Delhi on June 23 for submitting the names of the Ministers likely to be inducted in the new Govt to the AICC president Sonia Gandhi has not been able to meet her even today.
Mention may be made here that Power Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, Works Minister Gaikhangam, Horticulture Minister RK Theko and Famify Welfare Minister Bijoy Koijam are presently at New Delhi.
The present strength of the Council Of Ministers including the Chief Minister is 33.
