The Republic of Pretenders
Maibam Romiyo *
With grand intentions, they take the stage,
Actors of wisdom, prophets of age.
But their scripts are hollow, their promises thin,
A circus of power, a play dressed in sin.
Impersonating saviors, bold and bright,
Yet plotting in shadows when out of sight.
Anarchists in suits, they roar and preach,
But order and justice are out of reach.
Pretending nature, noble in speech,
While clawing for ladders they’ll never teach.
One law for the rich, one law for the poor,
Double standards knocking at every door.
Oh nation of masks, Oh kingdom of lies,
Your leaders wear crowns, but truth never flies.
So clap for the actors, cheer their command,
The theatre of power still rules the land.
