The Forgotten Throne
Maibam Romiyo *
Upon the throne of marble cold, he sits,
Crowned not by care, but hollowed pride of old.
His people hunger, yet he heeds them not,
Their voices lost like whispers in the grot.
Like Cronus feasting, blind to cries of kin,
Or Zeus aloof, who thundered from within,
The ruler turns his gaze to stars above,
But never bends to serve the land he loves.
Long-suffering hearts still wait for dawn to break,
For wisdom’s hand, the gift he will not take.
They hope, as mortals hoped at Delphi’s flame,
That fate might shift, and justice yet reclaim.
But silence lingers, heavier than stone,
The crown is bright, yet colder is the throne.
O ruler—heed! Before too late you find,
A people’s patience is the wrath of time!!
