Redemption Through Poetry
Chinglemba Yumnam *
Virtuous, our world never was.
Neither were our souls.
Our souls, stained with corruption,
Masks of colours we wear.
Built a bridge between you and I -
Not of iron, not of stone,
But of prejudices and deception.
Such a bridge, we are to walk.
A gentle river runs, between you and I-
Not of water, not of honey,
But thick with suspicion.
Such a river, we are to plunge into.
Oblivious, yet blessed be good Mother Nature,
For she gives us the art of poesy,
Where you can read the language of my wounds,
Where our poisoned souls, made pure.
Gentleness is what you and I need, not cleverness-
To find solace in our souls.
Let a path be carve by the tender hands of poesy,
Where we can walk slow, and breathe in every air.
Let this verse cleanse the river.
Let this verse shatter the bridge.
Let this verse quench the thirst of weary souls.
Let this verse rip off our coloured masks.
