Liability of Beauty
Aribam Surjeet Sharma *
What a fine specimen of beauty!
Very colourful and sweet scented.
But, be warned--oh, beautiful flower,
To some people, what most counts
Is only your fascinating colour
And not the sweet scent of yours.
They may pluck you so their eyes
Nay, their amorous eyes survey you;
Then, they will relish everything
Allied to your colourful appearance
Until their desire reach satiation.
Satiated and you will be cast away
Down to the hard stony ground
Where you may be trampled on
By lots of feet callous and soulless--
Oh, what a grim prospect of beauty
If it finds itself at the wrong place!
