Circles of Life
Aribam Surjeet Sharma *
Moving in various circles
Circles of life
We are around a vortex
The vortex of oblivion.
We all, irrespective of ages,
Are moving at the same speed,
Though in different circles,
The circles shrinking and shrinking
As the vortex pulls them inwards.
As each circle shrinks and shrinks,
Less and less time for each of us
To make one circular motion.
So, varying perceptions
Of the passage of time
For each of us in different circles.
Time seems to drag its feet
For a child moving in a large circle
At the vortex,s outer edge.
But time seems to make long strides
For an adult moving in a smaller circle
In the vortex's inner edge.
Finally, each one of shrinking circles
Converges to a point--
Or rather, the center of the vortex
And vanishes one by one,
Being sucked into an abyss.
Now, nothing is left behind
Except a world of silence
Of those vanishing circles.
