Call me Burma
Hijam Monarsingh Dallo Rihmo *
Wrap me in the gardens of Bagan,
Call me Burma, call me Burma,
The Arakan Buddha watch with sorrow,
How my tears erupt from the tainted grounds,
How Mingun crumbles with heartache,
How Mogok Hills now bleed blood rubies,
And the Shan hills now bloom poison.
Wrap me in the gardens of Bagan,
Call me Burma, call me Burma,
Let me bloom into the most beautiful Padauk,
Let my spires pierce the sky’s heart,
And cry to the Gods and cry to the Gods,
Let Ayerwaddy and Chindwin flow with tears,
Fill the oceans and the seas with my stories.
Wrap me in the gardens of Bagan,
Call me Burma, call me Burma,
Let the souls and spirits fly to the heavens,
Let their tears fall from the sky,
And soak the grounds and water the Pagodas,
Wrap me in the gardens of Bagan,
Call me Burma, call me Burma.
