An Ethnic Clash
Aribam Surjeet Sharma *
A very dark night filled with the roar
Of a violent storm raging all around.
Strong winds of hatred blowing all over
And spreading poison in many hearts-
Hearts belonging to two communities-
Triggering violence upon violence
In various parts of the land.
Some burning, some getting burnt.
Some killing, some getting killed-
The terrible tandav dance Lord Shiva
Sucking in its spiral many innocent lives.
One moment, blood thirsty cries
And the next, blood curdling screams-
Terrible sounds sapping, draining
And drowning the voice of humanity
With many being bogged down
In the quicksand of hate and violence,
The death rattle of the land is at hand.
Mercifully, now the storm is subsiding
With strong winds being replaced
By light winds-winds of good sense
Spreading rationality in many minds,
Though, some minds still remain
Deaf to the voice of rationality.
All the same, the night is about to end
And in the morning, sunshine of sanity
May pierce their minds enabling them
To see the beauty of living together.
