A Heart in Tension
Aribam Surjeet Sharma *
A strange love it is, my love for her,
I can't get very much close to her
And also I can't get away from her.
Like the fulmoon remaining far away,
She also remains far away from me,
Although her radiance reaches me
But, it is a love that keeps me circling
Like a planet, around a central point,
She anchored in the central point
And I moving along a circular path,
Neither getting near nor moving away,
Following the dictates of two forces.
These two forces are contrary.
One is centripetal-my love for her
Which drags me in towards her
And the other one is centrifugal
A firm commitment to someone
Which drags me away from her.
So, rather than moving inwards
To reach the fulness of our love,
I keep moving along a taut circle,
Balancing both the opposite forces
The centripetal and the centrifugal,
And in the process-a heart in tension
