A Choir of Cries
Hijam Monarsingh Dallo Rihmo *
If crying itself could cry,
It will beg with hands folded.
If struggling itself could struggle,
It will defy till the last wheezing breath.
If seeing itself could see,
It will stare into helpless eyes, wide open.
If fighting itself could fight,
It will batter broken bodies.
If lifeless itself could live,
It will swim, floating in rivers.
If desperation itself could despair,
It will be blank with hopelessness.
To accept our pitiful fate, still lose it all,
The overwhelming chorus, a choir of cries.
And in heaven we weep and weep,
Till the rains they fall and fall.
