E-Pao! Opinion - Where are we really heading to

Where are we really heading to!!!

By: Shanjoy Mairembam *

It is really wonderful and great to be what we are now as a person. It is nothing but just the fruit of our hard work and faith to our thinking that we have achieved something in our life and career. Many of us are in most of the part of the world - some working … some studying further again… some well settled… thus, most of us … living in a better & secure life among the others in a different cultural & social environment.

Yes, indeed we deserve the fun and life styles that we are having today… but what makes me feel is how long we are going to be happy and smiling like this… are we really happy … what will be the life style and thinking mentality of our kids coming up in future… will they really understand our culture and traditions… many funny things that we had enjoyed once we had in our days….

Are we going to let them miss those sweet moments of being a kid in our small localities… will our coming up kids understand us & our past life styles both fun full and social changes that we have come across…or will they have the feeling inside that they are really indeed confused who they are … where they are … what they are up to… Not just for them, is it really going to fill the gap that we have in our mind and lives about the friend-circles we had in our schools days; our caring grandpa-grandma; our lovely cousins…; our wonderful and exciting hide and seek playgrounds and gardens… many more…

As life is nothing but thought, our choice of life styles, like- dislikes get varied as per our thinking with the clicking of clock every new day. Sometimes, we feel like life is too fast… sometimes, it is too slow… We work in various multinational companies and various government & private organisations. We do get our salary and other perks that help us to enjoy the life that we really deserve in the cities and places where we ought to be as per our personality and level of hard work.

Everything is bright and wonderful … right from sleeping … working… eating… clothing… caring… and so many more… We could feel the modern life style and security in life. Still in mind, we feel to grow and we wish to stand in a high position earning a huge perk and a well-known reputation & recognition. We can really work hard still as we know we can … we can still try to make wonderful home abroad or where we are now…. We can dream and also make new dreams with every new achievement we got… Hmmm… many more such thinking in mind…

There has been a wide discussion and people have been expressing their views and concerns about the life style of being abroad or being far away from home town. Recently, the Hindi movie "Swades" released is also focusing on the impact on the thinking of the NRIs… Many more stories are there telling the pros and cons of coming back home from where there are now…

My writing is also about the thinking that I have in mind. When we think scientifically and in a straight forward manner, there is no religion… no community… no country… no race… no difference with one another … no difference among any place on earth… But… indeed… we being human beings… we tend to be in some sort of social relations… we are bound by emotions and mentality.

Somehow with our lucky fate and our hard work, we are now at what we wish to be… But how about our childhood friends… our relatives… our sweet and caring parents and grand-parents… who are far away in the small towns and villages where we were once there in our childhood days… Are we much occupied with our ambitious life and secure life style that we are enjoying with where we are now … When we hear any news about our own home town or anything relating to the childhood friends and our localites in newspaper or TV or internet…. We do feel exciting to hear and we use to smile at least for a while…

So, many thoughts come to my mind asking questions to myself…. And I, myself giving answers to my own questions alone; and also without asking the validity of neither the questions nor the answers… I have just started my career and I am just in 24th- 25th in age … yes still young enough in life… many more to come across in life… My mom and dad are getting older and older day by day…

Now, I begin to feel … what I am going to do with the money I earn and houses that I wish to build if I could not make my own mom and dad share the joy in time and make them at least smile before it is too late… yes, indeed, it is also my prime time to concentrate to win in my career… yes indeed again, it is the time to share knowledge and care to my lovely brother and sister too… Well… Being a guy… I am also not going to miss my youth's love-world time too… (seriously)…. All such thoughts at a time… hmmm… What about - after married life… the kids… the life styles…. My going to be family… other concerns… hmmm….

As far as I am concerned and we are concerned, we could fill up the gaps both in terms of career and life… but what about the kids… and what about our loving mom-dad .. Grandma- Grandpa... Indeed, all these are up to the thinking of the individuals. But the concern is how far we will rate ourselves… how far we can compensate this loss by our glory in career and life…

Many NRI are returning home back … Many are telling stories against coming back to India… many are complementing in favour of it. Most of them use to return when they are old in the age range of 45-50yrs. It is not just about the NRIs, it is about people who have settled in other parts of India leaving behind the past childhood localities too… Yes, we do know that we can't get the job that we are currently doing… yes we can't the facilities in life if we go back to our home towns… Many losses are there… Sometimes, questions may arise… like… is it just like getting home sick when we are getting old… hmmm or may be other reasons….

We do feel shock to hear any bad news about our own localities and own home town. When we go back there and see things in mess up conditions, we do blame the people and the government there like… it is more or less like hell…. Everything is not conductive to our life styles, etc… Many do comment like that and come back as if we are visitors or tourists from far off cities… And our once lovely and sweet home towns stay as what it were and it looks like things are going back to the prehistory far away from modernisation and far away from the thinking of what we once wish to be…

So, dear friends and colleagues, and dear youngsters in every part of the world, we being Humans are bounded by the love of something called family relations… won't that be great enough if we could contribute in the way we could for the places where we are born and for those who once were part of our daily life…. For those teachers who once taught us… for those childhood friends with whom we share some of our past… for those places where we had fun and enjoyment playing and roaming… Well, I feel that we won't wish to get retired from the job we are now and go back simply to settle back to our home towns just to show the spirit of being goodness and caring heart.

It will be nothing but showing stupidity. We heard the proverb "Rome was not built on a single day". It is something like that - if we like to do something, planning that may even go for years is to be done to see - our dreams come true. When we are up to wining some medals and rewards in our career, we do make a perfect plan as per our own analysis and work hard, whole day and night to win. Well, I do feel that Career or means of earning is just a part of life, but, life as such is what the full time job is.

Career is the means to our living. Then, is it fare enough to give less time and less importance to life than our career??? If we could make small changes everyday for our far off home towns via some means, we could someday go back as what we are now - with similar job and at the time, secure & respected life style too that we have now. There needs a lot of communication and exchange of ideas among us so that we can create a comfortable environment to live.

There will be need for doctors & big hospitals to treat illness; engineers and architects to build our home & cities; qualified teachers & professors to enlighten the mind of our kids and younger generations; daily workers like agriculturists to feed us in abundance with taste; qualified dignitaries to manage in the field of integrity & social security, travel and tourism, judiciary, legislative works,…. And many more… So, everyone & everything is needed in a society so that we get electricity whole day and night non-stop; we get water in plenty to drink and use; we get all the facilities of a modern life style.

It is just A Thinking in my mind. It may be contrasting to some other's view. Well, but dear friends, colleagues & youngsters… I do feel it is worth earning 30-40k in our own home town with the similar choice of work we do now & with moderately favourable life style… rather than earning in lacs per month in some cities in India or Abroad … Once we get retired from the work due to old age, we are nothing but just going to be a dummy person in reality.

Then, why do we need to retire from the life style just like that from the life we live now; even if we retire from the work we do now, we should be among the society with respect and dignity. How famous we may be and how much we may earn in fame and money now, all are indeed for the company we work or humanity nearby us… but, if we could do the same for the people along with whom we had grown up together from our childhood days...

Won't that be nice and great…? Wherever we go and wherever we live, we are noticed and recognised by the community and place of origin where we are from… so why not we think from now onwards... something that I could do for those localities in the field of knowledge, we are good… so that we could change for the best of our own tomorrow.

Where and when the mind is free and secure, we could think creatively; that is what we got and that is why we could think and gain fame and earn with respect in our respective companies and cities… But People in our far off home towns are lagging behind as they are unable to keep in pace with the changes… why not we give a helping hand to them by strongly participating so that we ourselves could make plans for ourselves for the best of our future.

Please give a thought. Let's not put our younger generations and kids in a mess up culture and life style … Let's not make them confuse who they are… what they are… why they are … like that… for us we can go anywhere and do anything as we have got the mentality and spirit… but.. We do need think for our dear ones too…
