E-Pao! Essay - The World and the North-east India.

The World and the North-east India.

Samu *

Inventions, discoveries, homicide, Church corruption, abuse- these words are no foreign to us. Oh! I forgot one. TERRORISM. I don’t subscribe to the idea of the world war possibility in the near future. I called those who did – a 'hypnotized citizen'.

Terrorism, led by Master Osama bin Laden played a very important role in shaping a country’s Foreign Policy. Since 9/11, terrorism opened a chapter with a new dimension.

But the real meaning has been and will always be structured, shaped and defined by the West particularly Uncle Sam. The Neocons in America who always wanted that there be a wide gap between the Christians and the Muslims find themselves to be in PARADISE. And ironically Mr. Osama is the man behind all this. With President Bush back in the throne for the second time, the relation between the West and the Muslim countries seems to be on the rough track.

The catastrophic success (as Bush called it) in Iraq and with the mandate to rule for 4 more years, I’m not sure of anything but am certain about that the world is heading towards US dominance no matter what. With an unending appetite for war, the world is definitely heading towards uncertainty but definitely not nuclear war? No country is fool enough to led nuclear bomb finish human existence.

But as a peace loving person, I would prefer the world dominated by Western countries rather than a Muslims state. Remember the way women are treated in Muslim countries. With the exception of few countries, women enjoy no political freedom at all.

In Afghanistan it was only because of President Bush that women were not only able to vote but contest an election. It was dream to contest some years back. In other places girls at a very young age are forced to get married. Their dream for education remains a dream. They are confined at home doing household work. No political participation.

None. Those lucky enough go for schooling. And that’s it. No higher education. If (it’s a big IF) a girl go for higher studies, they will find no man willing to marry them. Not because of old age (in the true sense) but they are perceived old. In simple term they are treated or called the SECOND sex.

Compare it with western women/ girl. In America women enjoy the same rights, be it political or social. I am a peace loving person who believes in the freedom of men and women. But peace and freedom always comes with a price. WAR. And Uncle Sam is doing this tiresome work for me and for you.

Yes, spreading freedom.

Let’s not forget that in war casualty is a must. But considering the long term achievement it is worth sacrificing lives so that our sons and grand-children live freely and peacefully. Also most country achieves freedom through struggle. And that involve violence.

Every country has a policy which is never against its own interest. And so is the policy of the West. So why make a halla-bulla out of it. Let Uncle Sam do his job peacefully so that we could sleep peacefully. Coming to the problems of the North eastern states of INDIA, we find insurgent groups almost in all the states.

Some fighting for homeland, some fighting for survival, some fighting for recognition, some for fame (I repeat FAME) and some for the interest of his/her community alone. Every group wants recognition, power, and status so that they can be politically accommodated. Political participation is the term to be considered. They fight for their own interest. Very few fight for the people they represent.

None ever bother about the sentiment of the people it would affect as a result of their policy. They care for their interest. And that’s the same policy adopted by any country. It’s the old wine in the new bottle. And that’s it. And here is the seed sown towards destabilizing the region. People live in constant fear. Insecure- will be the proper word.

Considering the very true nature of pluralistic society in the North-east India, the creation or the alteration of any state boundaries would be a disaster for the majority of the indigenous people.

Yes, a disaster. This word includes everything. But what will India as a whole loose? What is our contribution towards Indian economy? Except Assam, all other states are parasites to the Indian economy. And the Indian government knows it well than any other. But the Indian government is playing it safe. Acting as a big Brother.

The remote controller is in their hand. The Indian government can wait for decades, century or so and appoint committees to study the NE region as a platform to experience their intellectual ideas. But can the self-styled leader of any group who claim to fight for sovereignty or homeland wait that long? It’s a game played between India and the insurgent group. It’s a game. Politically correct game.

In tennis it would always be- ADVANTAGE INDIA. No deuce. Never. Realizing this, the self-styled leader fights and struggles to achieve at least something during their lifetime. They considered lucky enough if they could. They know where they are heading after death. Definitely. (you are free to guess where?) And in the process they started compromising and ultimately become the loser. India won as expected.

End of one of their experiment tested on the indigenous people. The very idea of homeland and sovereignty doesn’t hold strong to the new generation. This very violent idea will perish as time moves on. As Indira Gandhi said while inaugurating the newly formed state- Mizoram: “No such small states would for created henceforth”. There is a very little hope for the so called ‘fighter’ to achieve their ambitions.

Now in a globalize world, this kind of vision is obsolete. It no longer holds. It’s dormant. Killing, torture, oh my GOD! Who are we to take life?

If you can’t give life, take none. Never. Simple. This is one of the reasons why I subscribe to the idea of vegetarianism. Some people laugh when I say this. I’ve one word for them- CONFUSED. Another more- INSENSIBLE.

Have the capability and the intellect and you could be at anyplace earning any amount. And be a citizen of let’s say the USA. What you’ve got is what matters in this globalize and competitive world.

No island is undiscovered. The very sectarians, segregations idea leads to an atmosphere of hatred and therefore should not be encouraged. Everybody is a citizen of this world. Your birth on this earth gives you the right to live in this world. Why fight for a place when you have a place to live? Is it that you could dwell at two places simultaneously?

Or is it that you would take a piece of earth when you part with this world? Living peacefully side by side with anyone be it a Sikh, Hindu, Jews, gay, black, or Chinese- is what I would like to recommend. Respect each other with dignity.

No matter what, this world’s is the place you have to live in before you move into HEAVEN or HELL, so make the most out of it. Decorate it. Tune it. Clean it. Praise it and thank it.

Let’s not claim to be Christian and preach sectarianism. True Christian doesn’t do that. I am neither a theologian nor an intellect but being a citizen gives me the experience that tolerance for other religion is the key to exist in unity. When unity (I mean unity among the various religion) is achieved then we can tell the world that my “India is shining.”

To be a Christian doesn’t make you above all others. It is what you are that matters. You may practice Christianity, but what comes out of you in practicing it is all that matter.

Remember that you’ve to float on the sea without letting the water inside the ship. The same theory applies in our society. You have to keep floating but you should not be contaminated.

If you think India will ever shine, it won’t shine before you shine.

In god we trust.
