Manipuri Celebrities from Tripura - Smt. Kanchan Sinha

I wish to write some of the Manipuri celebrities of Tripura who belong to Manipuri Community. One such celebrity is Smt. Kanchan Sinha, a renowned writer of Tripura state belongs to Manipuri community. She born on 16th April,1965 in Tripura and completed her schooling in Tripura. She has passed Madhyamik and H.S.(+2) examination from Tripura Board of Secondary Education in First Division with record marks.

She has graduated in Pharmacy in First Class from Department of Pharmacy, Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 1986. She has completed a course on Material Management from National Institute of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi in 1989. She has been serving the Government of Tripura in various capacities such as Officer Incharge of Central Medical Store, Inspecting Officer (Drugs) under Health & Family Welfare Department etc.

Her book named 'Kailashahar Assembly Constituency' is an exception in publication world. This is the first kind of book not only in the state but in the country too. She has written about the historical background, socio-Political, socio-economical and cultural heritage of her husband's constituency - KAILASHAHAR ASSEMBLY CONSTITUENCY. No doubt, this book will help the research scholars as reference.

She has written about the every Panchayat villages and village council under this constituency. Community wise population of each and every hamlets are also recorded. The village wise literacy rate, profession, population living under poverty line, amenities and facilities if the villages are recorded very carefully. The number of Government and Non-Government schools available in the villages, medical facilities, habitation etc. are also recorded in the book.

Moreover, the ancient capital of royal era 'Rangauti' is described on light of historical background, sometimes she took the help of 'Rajmala'. The famous pilgrimage 'Unakoti' is mentioned elaborately, the available legend, stories that are widely circulated are also recorded in her book. She proudly recalled one Chand Miah of a small interior village named Irani under this constituency presented one elephant alongwith Mahout to Smt. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister during her Kailashahar visit in 1972. Lastly, booth wise, the number of voters are also recorded.

Being wife of a renowned Politician of the state, she is deeply acquainted with political scenario and closely associated with social and many cultural activities. She involves herself closely with rural and tribal people of Tripura and studies their socio-cultural and socio-economical problems in depth. Recently she has written a book named SIBSAGAR SAMHATI based on her participation in a seminar on National Integration at Sibsagar, Assam. The book is replete with historical events and past heritage of the Ahom Kings in greater dimension. She is also regularly contributing number of articles in various journals on the similar subjects.
