The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) is a premier institute of national and international repute. devoted to research in various aspects of atmospheric sciences relevant to tropical meteorology. The Institute offers exciting opportunities to bright young scientists to take up the challenge of weather and climate research. Institute is looking for suitable candidates for the following positions;

(A) Administrative Officer - 1 Post (UR)
Scale of Pay :- Rs. 10000-325-15200 plus allowances admissible to Central Govt. employees stationed at Pune. (Total emoluments at the minimum of the scale at present -Rs. 19,940/-)
Age :- 40 years or below (as on 30.11.2004).
Essential Qualifications :- i) Bachelor's Degree ii) 10 years administrative experience, out of which 8 years in supervisory grade, preferably in a Scientific (Govt. or Semi-Govt.) organisation.
Desirable Qualifications :- Aptitude for computer based management system.

(B) Scientist-B - 7 Posts {5(UR) & 2(OBC)}
Scale of Pay:- Rs. 8,000-275-13,500 plus allowances admissible to Central Govt. employees stationed at Pune.(Total emoluments at the minimum of the scale at present Rs. 16,160/-)
Age :- 35 years or below(as on 30.11.2004)
Essential Qualifications :-A good Master's degree or equivalent in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, Electronics or Geophysics or equivalent discipline, or B.E./B.Tech./M.Tech.(Electronics) /M.Tech.(Electrical Eng.) degree. About 3 years research experience as evidenced by standard research publications.
Desirable Qualifications :- (a)Ph.D. in a relevant subjects (b) Experience of modeling and diagnostic studies in the areas of climate change, Hydrometeorology, Cloud Physics, Boundary Layer Meteorology, Tropical cyclones. Palaeoclimatology and Ocean circulation.(c) Demonstrated computer programming skills in UNIX /Windows/Fortran /C.

(C) Junior Technical Officer - 1 Post (UR)
Scale of Pay :- Rs. 6,500-200-10,500 plus allowances admissible to Central Govt. employees stationed at Pune. (Total emoluments at the minimum of the scale at present -Rs. 12,926/-)
Age:- 30 years or below(as on 30.11.2004)
Essential Qualifications :-A good Master's degree in Science or a Bachelor's degree in Technology or Engineering or a Diploma in Engineering with about 5 years experience of work in the required discipline.
Desirable Qualifications :- Experience in Web designing, network administration and database management.

Relaxation of age:

The upper age limit is relaxable upto 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/IST and 3 years for candidates belonging to the OBC, and as per rules for Central Government employees, ex-servicemen and physically handicapped persons. There is no age limit for IITM employees.

Candidates applying for more than one post should send separate application accompanied by the prescribed fee for each post. Duly filled-in application form in the prescribed format with self-attested photocopies of all academic certificates and testimonials and application fee etc. should reach the Director, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Dr. Homi Bhabha Road, Pashan, Pune - 411 008 not later than 30th November 2004. Applications should be accompanied by an application fee of Rs.100/- by means of demand draft only drawn in favour of "Director, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology" payable at Pune (SC/ST candidates are exempted from payment of application fee). The name of the position applied for and the advertisement number should be clearly super-scribed on the top of the envelope containing the application form. Selection of the suitable candidates for all the posts will be based on a personal interview at the IITM Campus in Pune. Mere fulfilling educational qualifications does not entitled a candidate to be called for interview. Applications not accompanied by the full prescribed fee or not filled correctly or not attached with certificate as required will not be considered and summarily rejected. Candidates called for interview will be paid Sleeper Class to & fro train fare by the shortest route on production of original tickets strictly as per the concessional norms by Railway Authority and as such it must be availed.
