Shillong Autumn Festival 2007
- 26th October 2007 – 4th November 2007 -

The MTDF shall be holding the AUTUMN FESTIVAL 2007 again this year from 26 October 2007 – 4 November 2007. In this upcoming Festival, we have taken it as a challenge to inaugurate the Festival by staging the largest guitar gathering to attempt the Guinness World Record for 'The World Record Guitar Ensemble'.

We hope that the tunes from the guitar strings of this event shall attract the local, national and international media's attention on Meghalaya in a positive way. After a gap of almost 28 years, we shall also be organising the 'Vintage Car Pageant' – a presentation of classic automobiles from Shillong and Guwahati shall also be a part of Autumn Festival 2007.

The Autumn Festival 2007 will be a weekend long celebration from 26 th October 2007 till November 4th 2007 with various exciting events taking place in Shillong City and its suburbs as a run up to the Grand Finale at the Orchid Lake Resort, Umiam.

'LARGEST GUITAR ENSEMBLE' - 26 th October 2007 at the J N Stadium, Shillong

An attempt for the Guinness World Record on the 'LARGEST GUITAR ENSEMBLE' shall be held on 26 th October 2007 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong. At present the world record stands at 1721 guitarists from Kansas City, USA performing the rock classic 'Smoke on the Water' on 4th June 2007.

Our attempt shall be 2000+ guitarists performing Bob Dylan's classic 'Knocking on Heavens Door' to be performed by guitarists from all over Meghalaya, the Northeast and visiting tourists. We shall also invite celebrity guitarists from all over India to be part of this historical event.

Members of the public shall be invited to register themselves at the MTDF office while College students can register with resource persons from their respective colleges.

A special prize shall be given to colleges or institutions with the largest contingent. Basic chords and tuning techniques shall be explained by members of the MTDF in the coming weeks at rehearsals at the venue.

'VINTAGE CAR PAGEANT' – 28th October 2007 around Shillong

After a gap of nearly 25 years, the first ever vintage automobile pageant shall be held featuring vintage cars from Assam and Meghalaya. The star of the pageant shall be the Model T Ford that was featured in the film 'Gandhi' apart from American WWII jeeps and others. This pageant shall hope to attract car enthusiasts from all over the Northeast and other parts of India to witness this unique event.

'SHILLONG AUTUMN FESTIVAL' – 3rd and 4TH November 2007 at the Orchid Lake Resort, Umiam

The Festival will showcase Cultural Songs and Dances from Meghalaya and the North East Region as well as Traditional Sports. There will be Food Courts serving traditional and world cuisines, Arts and Handicraft Stalls, Modern Music and Dance entertainment, Traditional Fashion show, Competitive activities like kite flying / fishing / local boat races apart from a whole lot of activities that shall keep the entire family occupied.

This year we shall also showcase Teer – the traditional archery sport at the Orchid Lake Resort, Umiam so that locals and tourists can be a part of this sport.

Apart from the above, MTDF is also supporting the Mr Big concert on the 27th October and the Sepultura concert on the 31st October 2007
