INVITATION

World Meetei Council is organizing its 6th Plenary Session - 2026 (IMPHAL MEEPHAM) on 19th April 2026 (Sunday) at Imphal, Manipur, under the theme: EIKHOIGI LAIBAK EIKHOINA SEMJABANI – EIKHOI KARI TOUBATAI

Let us not forget that on our shoulders lies the sacred responsibility of passing on a bright and secure future to our children.

Let us rejuvenate the pride of being descendants of our brave forefathers who once dominated this part of South East and South Asia - from Ningthi Turen (Chindwin River) in the east to the Surma Valley (present Sylhet region of Bangladesh) in the west and up to China in the north.

Today, Meeteis across the world, with an estimated population of around 18 lakhs, stand at a critical crossroads due to our collective ignorance and inefficiency, especially on the part of political leadership. The time has come for us to stand united under smart and enlightened leadership. Mutual understanding, coordinated action and unity are now essential - for unity is our greatest strength, and there is no alternative to it.

World Meetei Council is sincerely committed to building strong social bonding to connect Meetei people across the globe in order to protect and promote our common interests.

WMC is also deeply concerned about the demographic changes in Manipur over the last four decades that have significantly disturbed the social structure with far-reaching socio-political implications. This calls for urgent and decisive measures from the Government of Manipur, where the role of indigenous people remains crucial.

Taking these concerns seriously, WMC has resolved to actively pursue the demand for inclusion of Meeteis in the list of Scheduled Tribes under the Constitution of India. This resolution was first adopted during Guwahati Meepham – 2021, and reaffirmed in:
• Delhi Meepham – 2022
• Sugnu Meepham – 2023
• Binakandi Meepham – 2024

This remains our top priority for securing our collective future.
