Restore peace between Nagas, Kukis and Meities
20 December 2016
President, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee
Dated: 20th December, 2016.
It is out of my jurisdiction to poke my nose in Manipur. But we are brothers and neighbours and we shall be forever brothers and neighbours. We are pained and hurt by the “economic blockade” time and again. It implies, “let people die out of hunger and thirst”. On the other hand, economic blockade is strangling not just the economy but is strangling our children to death. The action is inhuman and Unchristian-like.
It is also inhuman and demonic to attack peaceful travellers for no fault of theirs. Destroying properties can’t be considered as wise action by any sensible person.
We do not agree with actions of both sides.
We cannot gift you peace. Peace has to be grown in your hearts. Confrontation and counter confrontation have destroyed peaceful coexistence. Nagas, Kukis and Meites will be neighbours forever. Our lands are interlocked and will remain interlocked. We are interdependent politically and economically in reality and this will remain a reality. We have to work together and live together.
Whatever unfortunate incidents have happened, let us not allow them to happen again. All Nagas or Meites are not bad. Silent majority are good. Nagas, Kukis and Meites have lived together in peace for centuries and may be more than thousand years for some. The Government cannot allow 1 to disturbed the peace of 99 forever.
Christians are the best citizens of the World. Our religion does not preach violence. Love your enemy is the doctrine. Christians are expected to tolerate and find peaceful ways to solve the problems. We must show our doctrines in practice.
In the matter of Political Problem, GOI has made clear its stand. We have nothing to fight amongst ourselves. War against India is not the option, neither liberation with the help of another nation. Negotiation is the only way out to resolve the problem. We have a vision to solve the problem.
In the exodus of NE Youth, particularly Nagas, few have brought laurels but many have brought sad stories. Nagaland people have given shelter, hospitality and have taken the beatings for the noble political cause. I don’t know how long Nagaland people can continue to take the beatings.
I appeal to all to desist from adopting a policy of confrontation and this has to start from the Church. It is wrong for NSF to resort to economic blockade. Living in peace with our neighbours is an art of democracy and religion doctrine. People suffering for supporting the policy of confrontation are not the victims but they are connivers.
Silent majority must speak out through vote to give a clear mandate for peaceful living. Peace and solution is within us. Those living together have to find out unanimous solution. It’s not the problem of others. Intelligent personalities and leaders should be allowed to put their heads together to find out the best course of solution.
