Announcement: "The Puya Readers Club" Formed in London UK

London (UK), June 12, 2010
Expatriate book enthusiasts have recently met at London, UK and formed "The Puya Readers Club" (PRC).
The Puyas written in the indigenous Meetei Eyek are some of the rarest manuscripts presenting insightful linguistic and anthropological information on the ancient knowledge and life of the Meeteis. The Puyas can serve as one of the primary sources for the study of the political, economic and social history of the Meeteis throughout the ages. The understanding of these rare Puyas can help in exploring and reconstructing several missing links of the civilisation of this region.
In the recent years the appreciation of Puya as testimony to the spiritual and historical advancement of the ancient Kangleipak Civilisation has assumed new dimensions. The overwhelming loss of these rare manuscripts during the Puya Meithaba has made the present generation much more conscious of the need for the preservation and exploration of what remains.
The PRC aims to generate interest and active research on the ancient Puyas, among individuals and scholars who have interest in such rare manuscripts.
In its first meet, which was held on the 5th of June 2010, the initial few pages of the puya – Wakoklon Hilel Thilel Salai Amailon Pukok were read and discussed. The readers had an intriguing and fascinating experience with many of them reading it for the first time. Intriguing quotes which describe the concept of a time when there were neither light nor darkness came across. The philosophy enshrined in the Puya was profoundly appreciated by the readers.
The PRC plans to conduct regular meets and discussion and would be sharing the dates and venue to allow interested individuals to participate.
The initial activities and meeting of the PRC would be confined mainly across the United Kingdom but hope to establish centres across the globe in the future. We would be grateful for anyone who wishes to join the club and be part of the research group.
