One Day Awareness Programme on livestock-piggery farming

A “One Day Awareness Programme” focusing on livestock-piggery farming was organized by the
Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) in collaboration with Diocesan Social Service
Society (DSSS) at Hungpung village, Ukhrul District on 20th August 2010. About 200 individuals
representing 20 SHGs participated in the programme.
The programme was organised as part of the NPMHR’s promotion of economic development of
indigenous peoples/tribals as enunciated in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Peoples. It aimed to develop avenues for indigenous peoples/tribals to maintain their economic
and social systems of indigenous peoples/tribals.
Mr, Hungyohong Ningshen, member, NPMHR, gave a brief introduction on the intrinsic link between
economic, social and cultural rights and civil and political rights. Dr. Ngahorshai Luithui, the District
Veterinary Officer provided then provided in depth inputs into the arts and science of livestock
piggery farming.
