A panic spreads among the people from North East India living in Delhi and NCR with reports of 40,000 their women recruited for Common Wealth Game 2010 services and many afraid to be targeted for escorting purpose. North East Support Centre & Helpline appeals the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare Department to take up the precautionary steps.
North East Support Centre & Helpline has been warning the possibility of huge human trafficking during Common Wealth Game for last one year. Now it has come to limelight that the issue and concern of human trafficking becoming a reality during CWG 2010.
Commenting on 40,000 North East women hired, Madhu Chandra ' Spokes Person of North East Support Centre & Helpline and Public Relation Secretary of All India Christian Council says, 'We have nearly 100,000 men and women from North East India already employed in various jobs and companies in Delhi and NCR. We are reported in last two weeks about numbers of girls and boys missing in Delhi and NCR. Some of the fresh recruitment could be for legitimate Games event, but some may be for escort services. We are extremely concerned at reports that many north-east girls have been lured by placement agencies for the Games. We fear they may fall into wrong hands.'
Whenever any International Trade event happens in Delhi, local organising committee hires huge numbers of boys and girls from North East India for exhibition sales counters for the countries like Thailand, Malaysia and Burma etc.
'Human trafficking is the modern day slavery and biggest organised crime next to drug and arm trafficking. In India, human trafficking agencies carefully selected communal and socio-political affected geographical areas,' says Advocate Lansinglu Rongmei, President of North East Support Centre & Helpline.
'These agencies have chosen carefully the victims of Kandhmal communal violence of 2008, who still living without proper food and shelter,' says Advocate Lansinglu.
India's North Eastern states are afflicted by socio-political crisis, where there is no employment opportunities and limited option for educational carrier. 'Trafficking agencies chose such geographical locations to allure young girls and boys with easy offer of jobs and free education,' says Mr. Chandra.
North East Support Centre & Helpline is submitting a memorandum to Ministry of Women and Child Welfare Department to take precautionary measurement to prevent possible huge trafficking during CWG 2010.
Also appeals to North East communities living in Delhi and NCR to be informed first and inform others about the reality of human trafficking targeted their own communities.
North East Support Centre & Helpline under its parental body of All India Christian Council has setup shelter homes in different major cities of India and they are named 'PRATIGYA.'

* A Assamese girl rescued from Gurgaon in 2008
* A Manipuri girls rescued from African Nationalities in 2009
* A Oriya Kandhmal Communal violence victim rescued in 2010
